Portugal implements new taxi pricing regulations at Lisbon Airport
Portugal has introduced new taxi pricing regulations, specifically impacting services at Lisbon Airport. Under Regulation No. 1324-A/2026 issued by the Mobility and Transport Authority (AMT), fixed charges will be implemented to prevent tourist exploitation and hidden fees following police investigations that identified 67 offenses.
The new model includes day and night rate variations across different zones. While intended to increase transparency, the system has raised concerns regarding high costs for short-distance journeys, with some airport rides potentially reaching €23. This may drive travelers toward alternatives such as the Lisbon Metro, Uber, or Bolt.
Beyond fare changes, the regulation establishes a broader framework for public taxi transport, prioritizing cost recovery, safety, accessibility, and service quality. The framework requires authorities to consider local economic conditions and passenger affordability when setting tariffs.
