Portugal invests over €440k in new ultrafiltration system and adopts 'Água Que Une' water strategy

Águas do Douro e Paiva is investing more than €440,000 in a mobile, containerised ultrafiltration unit for the Pousada‑Gôve water treatment plant in Baião. The system will handle a minimum flow of 45 m³ per hour and is slated to be operational by next summer, aiming to increase operational flexibility and ensure reliable water supply. Bruno Coimbra, president of the company’s board, said the upgrade “reinforces the capacity to respond … and ensures a more reliable service for the populations served.”

The Portuguese government has approved the legal regime for AdP AQUA, granting the state‑owned company responsibility for implementing the national “Água Que Une” strategy. The plan seeks to improve water security and climate resilience through €1,814 million in efficiency measures, €3,836 million in resilience projects, and €238 million in intelligence initiatives up to 2035, covering infrastructure, digital monitoring, and regulatory upgrades.
