Portugal launches €10 million incentive scheme for electric vehicles and clean mobility

The Portuguese government opened applications on 11 June for a new €10 million Green Mobility programme administered by the Environmental Fund. The scheme supports the purchase of zero‑emission vehicles and the replacement of combustion‑engine cars, with eligibility limited to vehicles bought from 1 January 2025 that have not received earlier phase funding.

Individuals can receive up to €4,000 for an electric passenger car, while private social‑solidarity institutions may obtain up to €5,000. Vehicle prices must not exceed €38,500 for standard models or €55,000 for models with more than five seats. The programme also provides subsidies for electric bicycles (50 % of purchase price, up to €750), conventional bicycles (up to €500), cargo bikes (up to €1,500 for electric, €1,000 for non‑electric), motorcycles, mopeds, tricycles and quadricycles (up to €1,500), and for battery chargers.

The initiative aims to decarbonise Portugal’s transport sector, cut emissions and reduce dependence on fossil fuels, accelerating the country’s energy transition. Environment and Energy Minister Maria da Graça Carvalho said the support reinforces sustainable mobility choices.
