Portugal launches breast cancer awareness and research initiatives

Various initiatives in Portugal are underway to promote breast cancer awareness and fund research during the Pink October movement.

In Costa de Caparica, the Liga Portuguesa Contra o Cancro (LPCC) is organizing a solidarity walk on October 18. Starting at Parque Urbano da Costa da Caparica, the event aims to raise awareness through a circuit toward the Paredão da Costa. Participants can register for a minimum donation of 5 euros, which includes a kit with a t-shirt and insurance.

Additionally, Ausonia and the LPCC have launched the seventh edition of the #UMAPORTODAS campaign. Running until November 30, 2026, the project links product sales to scientific research, where each package sold corresponds to one minute of research funding. The campaign also features a new videocast presented by Joana Cruz, discussing prevention, innovation, and life after diagnosis. These efforts come as Portugal recorded approximately 9,100 new breast cancer cases and 2,101 deaths in 2024.
