Portugal launches initiatives to boost SME digital transformation

Several initiatives are underway in Portugal to accelerate the digital transformation and competitiveness of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

NERSANT has launched the IMPULSO+ PME program, a training-action initiative designed to assist companies with digitalization, sustainability, and internationalization. The program focuses on five key areas: digital transition, ESG criteria, competitiveness, innovation, and internationalization. Presentation sessions for the program are scheduled across various locations, including Torres Novas, Santarém, Ourém, Benavente, and Abrantes. Developed in partnership with IAPMEI and funded by COMPETE 2030, the program combines learning with direct business intervention.

Separately, IAPMEI is mobilizing 2.47 million euros for the PME Digital+ program, which aims to involve at least 600 companies and over 5,000 participants by 2028. Co-financed at 85% by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER), this 24-month initiative targets SMEs in the North, Center, and Alentejo regions. The program emphasizes artificial intelligence, automation, cybersecurity, and energy efficiency. While it provides capacity building, digital maturity diagnostics, and technological experimentation, IAPMEI clarified that it does not offer direct financial funding for the purchase of technology.
