Portugal leads EU in ICT job advertisement proportion
Portugal has emerged as the European Union leader in the proportion of online job advertisements dedicated to Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). According to Eurostat data covering the 12 months ending in June, 13.2% of all online job postings in Portugal were for the ICT sector, more than double the EU average of 6.2%.
This marks the first time Portugal has topped this ranking since the peak of the pandemic in 2021. The Lisbon Metropolitan Area also shows significant strength, ranking third among 242 EU regions with ICT roles accounting for 17.6% of its job advertisements.
Between 2022 and 2025, Portugal saw a 59% increase in the number of employed individuals with formal ICT training, outperforming countries such as Bulgaria, Luxembourg, and Austria. When considering all ICT specialists regardless of specific training, Portugal ranks third in Europe for employment growth in this field, following only Lithuania and Croatia.
