Portugal mandates visible fuel tax reductions at gas stations

A new decree-law in Portugal requires fuel stations to visibly display the amount of tax reduction applied to each liter of fuel. Starting on the 17th, petroleum product marketers must post information near or on refueling equipment showing the difference between the reference ISP (Imposto sobre os Produtos Petrolíferos e energéticos) rate and the rate effectively charged, including VAT. This information must be clearly labeled as ‘Redução ISP+IVA’. Failure to provide accurate or updated information can result in fines ranging from 1,000 to 3,000 euros.

Additionally, the government has increased extraordinary support for the transport sector from 38 million to 39.5 million euros. This 1.5 million euro increase includes new allocations of 500,000 euros each for agricultural cooperatives, the earthmoving machinery sector, and the extractive industry. The largest portion of the fund, 30 million euros, remains dedicated to road freight transport and emergency services.
