Portugal media reports highlight domestic and psychological violence cases

In Portugal, recent media coverage has highlighted various instances of domestic and psychological violence. On the reality program ‘Casados à Primeira Vista’, participant Catarina read a letter detailing a pattern of psychological aggression and intimidation by her former partner, João Pedro. She described an environment of constant pressure regarding her image and behavior, stating that the relationship ended in a state of fear and possessiveness.

Separately, journalist Joana Latino shared her personal experience of adolescent domestic violence during a discussion on the ‘Passadeira Vermelha’ program. Additionally, the trial of José Castelo Branco for aggravated domestic violence continues in the Cascais Court. Witnesses in the case of Betty Grafstein have testified to decades of physical and psychological abuse, including allegations that Castelo Branco controlled her food intake to prevent weight gain.
