Portugal mortgage data shows gap between acquisition and transferred credit

In August, mortgage data in Portugal revealed a significant gap between different types of credit operations. According to data from ComparaJá, the average amount for acquisition credit was 238,933 euros, while transferred credit averaged only 155,434 euros.

This discrepancy arises because acquisition credit reflects current market prices for new purchases, whereas transferred credit involves existing loans that have already been partially amortized. The national average of 204,359 euros is considered a mathematical midpoint that does not represent a typical real-world operation.

Market composition also shifted during the month, with acquisition credits rising to 54.6% of operations, up from previous periods, while transfers fell to 39.8%.
