Two workers killed in Porto Covo construction accident

Two workers, aged 26 and 28, died on Monday after being buried in a trench during construction work for a tourist development in Porto Covo, Sines. The victims were of Cape Verdean and Guinean nationality.

The accident occurred at the Pestana Porto Covo Beach Residences site, a project by the Pestana Hotel Group. Emergency services were alerted around 16:30 after containment barriers reportedly failed, causing a landslide that buried the workers at a depth of approximately five to six meters.

Rescue teams located the first body at 18:15 and the second at 23:15. Medical personnel from the Hospital do Litoral Alentejano confirmed both deaths at the scene. The Authority for Working Conditions (ACT) has maintained the bodies at the site to conduct necessary investigations.
