Portugal olive oil production projected to grow 10%

Olive oil production in Portugal is projected to grow by nearly 10% this year compared to the previous year, according to Olivum – Associação de Olivicultores e Lagares de Portugal. This increase is expected to bring production levels closer to the 177,000 tonnes recorded during the 2024/2025 campaign, up from the 160,000 tonnes produced in the prior period.

Project manager Gonçalo Moreira noted that higher temperatures may accelerate olive maturation, potentially leading to an earlier harvest and the earlier operation of oil mills. While the outlook is positive for sector recovery, Olivum warned of rising production costs. Specifically, agricultural diesel prices in mainland Portugal have risen by approximately 60%, while road diesel has increased by 40% compared to the same period last year.
