Portugal online gambling revenue jumps 14% as World Cup boosts market, while Roblox sees user decline
The Portuguese Association of Betting and Online Games (APAJO) reported that gross online gambling revenue in Portugal rose 14.4% year‑on‑year to €328.2 million in the second quarter of 2026, driven by the FIFA World Cup. Active user accounts increased 8.4% to 1.2 million, and the special online gambling tax collected €92.1 million, up 13.4%.
In the same period, Roblox Corp. disclosed a sharp fall in daily active users to about 123 million, down from a peak of 152 million the previous summer. The platform’s in‑game spending also dropped, prompting a roughly 70% plunge in its share price from the prior year’s high. CEO Dave Baszucki said the company is refocusing on higher‑quality, longer‑lasting experiences, while CFO Naveen K. Chopra cited reduced monetisation among users under 13 as the main cause of the revenue shortfall.
