Portugal pledges 75 million euros to Ocean Eye Alliance
Portuguese Prime Minister Luís Montenegro announced that Portugal will contribute approximately 75 million euros, through both financial donations and in-kind support, to the Ocean Eye Alliance. This new European project aims to strengthen ocean observation and improve access to essential marine data for science, the economy, and environmental protection.
The alliance was launched during Montenegro’s official visit to the United States for the 81st United Nations General Assembly. The initiative is presided over by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
In addition to the alliance, Montenegro committed to continued substantial investment in state laboratories to ensure they possess the necessary equipment for international participation. He also pledged ongoing financial contributions to EUMETSAT, the intergovernmental organization focused on monitoring weather, climate, and the environment via satellite.
