Portugal podcast downloads drop 48% in August

Podcast downloads in Portugal experienced a significant decline in August, falling nearly 48% compared to the record highs seen in July. According to data from Pod_Scope, a technical measurement service by Marktest, total downloads dropped to approximately 7.21 million in August, down from 13.8 million in July.

This figure represents the lowest monthly total since the service began tracking data in January 2025. The downward trend was observed across all major publishers, including weekly downloads and listener numbers.

In terms of publishers, the Impresa group maintained its leadership position with 2.44 million monthly downloads, despite recording its lowest values since the ranking began. Observador followed in second place with 2.28 million downloads, while Renascença Multimédia fell to third with 1.15 million. Bauer Media ranked fourth with 998,000 downloads, and RTP held the fifth position with 341,000 downloads.

When analyzing individual brands, Observador reclaimed the top spot. Expresso rose to second place with 1.15 million downloads, surpassing Renascença, which dropped to third with 1.03 million. Rádio Comercial moved up to fourth place with 877,000 downloads, followed by SIC Notícias in fifth with 809,000.
