Portugal police arrest two fugitives wanted in France and Brazil
The Portuguese Public Security Police (PSP) arrested two men wanted by international authorities in separate operations conducted in Leiria and Vila Nova de Famalicão.
In Vila Nova de Famalicão, police detained a 41-year-old Portuguese man under a European Arrest Warrant issued by France. He is a suspect in a March 2023 homicide and aggravated assault in Marseille, where an altercation resulted in the death of a 57-year-old man. He faces potential prison sentences of up to 30 years in France and remains in preventive detention pending extradition.
In Leiria, authorities apprehended a 33-year-old Brazilian national wanted by Brazilian authorities. He was sentenced in 2015 in Goiás for receiving stolen goods and document forgery after being caught driving a stolen vehicle from São Paulo. Having served only four days of his original six-year sentence, he faces approximately five years and eleven months of remaining prison time. He is also held in preventive detention awaiting extradition to Brazil.
