Portugal President urges rapid probe of Interior Minister Luís Neves
The President of the Portuguese Republic stressed that sovereign bodies must preserve the dignity of institutions and called for a swift determination of responsibility in the public prosecutor's inquiry into controversies surrounding Interior Minister Luís Neves. The remarks were made in Marvão, Portalegre district, after the President was received by the municipal council president. He urged that the investigation launched by the Attorney General's Office reach conclusions quickly, following weeks of debate after Neves said on 17 July that he is “always very attentive” to events and speaks at the right time and place.
The call reflects heightened political scrutiny of the interior ministry and underscores the President’s role in safeguarding democratic values and the rule of law.
