Portugal's World Cup 2026 coverage expands with free TV, streaming platforms and regulator review

For the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Portugal will broadcast 20 matches free-to-air on RTP, SIC and TVI, including all games involving the national team, the opening match, both semifinals and the final. The premium subscription service Sport TV offers comprehensive coverage for a monthly fee of €34.99.

A new competitor, LiveModeTV, streams 34 World Cup games for free on YouTube and the Prime Video platform. The platform, backed by shareholder Cristiano Ronaldo, also plans to acquire rights to the Portuguese Primeira Liga, which could challenge Sport TV’s long‑standing monopoly. LiveModeTV has attracted regulatory attention; the Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social (ERC) gave the service a 72‑hour deadline to register as a audiovisual service, citing its shift from linear programming to on‑demand playlists.

Viewers outside Portugal can also watch Portuguese channels such as TVI via VPNs or the official TVI Player International subscription. The spread of free and subscription options, combined with the ERC's oversight, reshapes how Portuguese audiences will follow the tournament.
