Portugal recognizes public interest in Embraer Super Tucano assembly line in Beja
The Portuguese Council of Ministers has officially recognized the national public interest in establishing a final assembly line for A-29N Super Tucano military aircraft in Portugal. The project, developed in collaboration with the Brazilian aerospace company Embraer, is expected to be located within the perimeter of the Beja Air Base (BA11).
This decision follows a letter of intent signed in December between the Ministry of National Defense and Embraer. The government aims to utilize existing infrastructure at the base, potentially adapting a building previously designated for aeronautical production. The facility is intended to serve the needs of the Portuguese State and may potentially supply other European countries through government-to-government negotiations.
This industrial project is distinct from the separate acquisition of 12 A-29N Super Tucano aircraft for the Portuguese Air Force, a purchase authorized with a maximum expenditure of 196.66 million euros. Embraer maintains an existing relationship with the Portuguese aerospace sector through its stake in OGMA and its engineering center in the country.
