Portugal recognizes two new traditions as Intangible Cultural Heritage

Two distinct cultural traditions in Portugal have been officially recognized by the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The Dança da Morgadinha, part of the Cavalhadas de Teivas in Viseu, was added to the national inventory following a proposal by the Department of Cultural Assets. Armando Cardoso, president of the Associação de Teivas, noted that the recognition is a significant milestone for the village and announced plans to establish a museum to preserve the dance's history.

Additionally, the Arte dos Caldeireiros de Santa Marta de Rossas has been inscribed in the inventory under an Urgent Safeguard regime. This decision aims to mitigate risks to the transmission of traditional knowledge and skills associated with the coppersmithing craft, ensuring the practice is preserved for future generations.
