Portugal Regulator Demands LiveModeTV Register for World Cup 2026

Portugal's media regulator, the Entidade Reguladora para a Comunicação Social (ERC), announced that LiveModeTV must be registered as a formal news outlet under the country's audiovisual law. The regulator warned that the platform, which streams 34 World Cup 2026 matches on YouTube, may already be in breach of registration deadlines, potentially constituting a regulatory offence.

ERC noted that LiveModeTV displays “characteristics of an editorially organised media service,” including a visual identity, structured programming, editorial responsibility and economic exploitation. The platform, backed by an investment from football star Cristiano Ronaldo, will broadcast all Portugal matches, the semifinals and the final. Failure to complete registration within the 60‑day legal period could result in a sanction.
