Portugal rental prices rise, exceeding minimum wage
Rental prices in Portugal rose in August 2026 following a decline in the first half of the year. According to a report from the portal Idealista for the second quarter of 2026, the median monthly rent for a one-bedroom (T1) apartment is 1,128 euros, an amount that exceeds the national minimum wage by more than 200 euros.
Lisbon remains the most expensive district, with a median rent of 1,354 euros for a T1 apartment and 1,409 euros within the city itself. Other high-cost areas include Madeira (1,295 euros), Faro (1,171 euros), and Porto (983 euros).
In contrast, the most affordable T1 apartments are located in the districts of Guarda (456 euros), Castelo Branco (527 euros), and Bragança (529 euros). For single room rentals, prices are significantly lower, averaging 505 euros per month, with the cheapest options found in Bragança, Guarda, and Castelo Branco.
