Cinema Passeio French film showcase O Faraó, o Selvagem e a Princesa Rafiki João Pessoa

The public Cinema Passeio in João Pessoa’s Torre neighbourhood is screening two French‑language films this weekend – ‘O Faraó, o Selvagem e a Princesa’ and ‘Rafiki’. The showcase is organised through a partnership between the Fundação Cultural de João Pessoa (Funjope), the French Embassy, Institut Français and the Alliance Française.

The municipal‑run cinema, created by the city government, offers free sessions on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 16:00 and 19:00. Funjope’s executive director Marcus Alves said the venue, inaugurated earlier this year, has quickly become a successful hub for building local audiences for audiovisual works. Mayor Leo Bezerra, who oversees the project, stressed its importance for strengthening João Pessoa’s cultural scene.

‘Rafiki’ tells the story of two teenage girls in Nairobi whose families, bound by conservative social norms that forbid homosexuality, condemn their relationship, while ‘O Faraó, o Selvagem e a Princesa’ blends ancient Egyptian, medieval French and 18th‑century Ottoman‑inspired fantasies.
