Portugal: School technicians face repayments and Elevador da Glória claims persist

In Portugal, school technicians, including psychologists and speech therapists, are being notified to return thousands of euros to the State due to career progression issues. Some individuals face repayments of up to 10,000 euros, leading some to take out bank loans despite judicial decisions contesting the Ministry's position.

Regarding the Elevador da Glória accident, nearly one year after the derailment, only four of the 16 compensation processes for fatalities have been closed. The 24 injured victims remain in treatment, and the insurer Fidelidade has assumed or covered approximately 2.3 million euros in related expenses.

Additionally, reports highlight the activities of the ‘Rolex Gang,’ a group linked to South American criminal networks targeting tourists. A recent incident involved a fatal collision after a robbery attempt where a victim struck a gang member's motorcycle while fleeing.
