Portugal sees surge in digital service and private healthcare complaints
In Portugal, consumer complaints have seen significant increases in both the digital services and private healthcare sectors.
According to ANACOM, complaints regarding digital services rose by 195% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025. A total of 121 complaints were recorded, with 68% relating to the suspension, restriction, or removal of accounts and content. Meta platforms accounted for over half of these grievances, with Facebook representing 30% and Instagram 25%. Other notable platforms included X (7%) and Google (6%).
In the healthcare sector, a report by Consumers Trust Labs shows that total complaints rose by 23% during the first nine months of 2026, reaching 4,700. The private sector saw a 30% increase, accounting for 76% of all healthcare complaints. While clinical care remains the primary issue in private healthcare, there was a significant 61% surge in complaints regarding health and wellness products. Among private hospitals, CUF, Lusíadas Saúde, Hospital da Luz, and Trofa Saúde collectively represent nearly 97% of complaints in their subcategory.
