Portugal Social Security deadline for employer contributions

Employers in Portugal have until Friday, September 25, to complete social security contribution payments for the previous month's remunerations. This deadline includes employers of domestic workers.

This date reflects a recent policy change implemented in February 2026, which extended the payment deadline from the 20th to the 25th of each month. The extension was designed to provide companies with more flexibility for treasury management and to allow time for verifying calculated amounts.

While the payment deadline is the 25th, employers must still verify the amounts calculated by Social Security by the 20th. If no response is provided by that date, the calculated amounts are deemed accepted. Note that these rules differ for independent workers, who generally continue to make payments between the 10th and 20th of the following month.
