Portugal's Socialist Party calls for economic reforms and regional development, while local branch elects new leader

Secretary‑General of Portugal's Socialist Party (PS) José Luís Carneiro used a visit to the seafood firm Ramírez in Matosinhos to denounce the government's habit of announcing packages without delivering concrete solutions. He demanded urgent action on housing, health, wages, youth retention and the competitiveness of Portuguese firms, urging investment in the ocean economy and renewable energy.

In Vila Real, Carneiro reaffirmed a public commitment to the country's interior regions. He proposed new territorial development contracts that would link central authorities, municipalities and local businesses in five‑year investment plans, called for decentralising public services and fiscal incentives for interior municipalities, and stressed the national priority of improving railway infrastructure.

Separately, the PS municipal committee in Nazaré elected Milton Estrelinha as its president with 98% of the vote. The new local leader pledged renewal, closer dialogue with citizens and focus on housing, mobility, tourism, public services and economic development for the municipality.
