Portugal Socialist Party seeks clarification on tax risk from EDP dam sale
Socialist Party deputy Miguel Costa Matos asked Finance Minister Joaquim Miranda Sarmento to confirm whether the Tax Authority has warned the government that the taxes due on the €335.2 million sale of six Transmontano dams by EDP to Engie could become void. Matos said the sale has been inspected by the Tax Authority and examined by the Public Prosecutor, and he wants to know if any information suggests the tax liability might lapse.
The PS also questioned the delay in publishing a decree‑law that would create a fund to channel the tax revenues to the local territories affected by the dams. Matos argued that the local populations deserve certainty that the expected tax income will be collected and transferred, and he urged the minister to explain any political or bureaucratic reasons for the postponement.
