Portugal to implement law banning face coverings in public
A new law in Portugal, set to take effect at the end of September, will penalize individuals for covering their faces in public spaces. The legislation mandates fines ranging from 150 to 3,000 euros for those violating the ban.
The restrictions apply to various locations, including public transport, streets, shopping centers, stadiums, schools, and canteens. While the law specifically targets the use of the burqa, observers note that the enforcement could also affect individuals wearing hoods, high collars, or other face-obscuring garments in common areas.
