Portugal to pay pharmacies 3.15 euros per vaccine in 2026-2027 campaign
Portuguese pharmacies participating in the 2026-2027 seasonal influenza and COVID-19 vaccination campaign will receive 3.15 euros for each vaccine administered. This decision was detailed in a regulation published in the Diário da República.
The funding for these payments will be provided by the budget of the Central Administration of the Health System (ACSS), which will transfer the funds to local health units for distribution to the pharmacies. The Ministry of Health has opted to maintain the decentralized vaccination model, with an estimated budgetary impact of up to 7.6 million euros.
This model follows previous campaigns in 2024-2025 and 2025-2026, which officials noted provided significant benefits to public health protection and the health system's response capacity. In the most recent campaign, approximately 2,585 community pharmacies and 1,000 National Health Service primary care units participated, with pharmacies administering over 1.1 million flu vaccines and 631,000 COVID-19 vaccines.
