Mozambique airport passenger traffic falls 9% in 2025

The 2025 Annual Report of Aeroportos de Moçambique shows a 9.32% decline in passenger numbers at national airports compared with 2024, and a 14.87% drop versus 2019. Aircraft movements totals fell to 54,495, down 10.93% from the previous year and 18.26% from 2019, while the number of flights that actually entered national airspace rose slightly to 32,901, representing 100.34% of scheduled operations.

Cargo throughput decreased to 7,842 tonnes (‑28.44% vs 2024, ‑55.91% vs 2019) and mail handling fell to 275 tonnes (‑43.53% vs 2024, ‑48.69% vs 2019). Linhas Aéreas de Moçambique (LAM) remained the largest carrier, carrying 54% of passengers, mainly on domestic routes. The report attributes the weak performance partly to operational constraints at LAM, including fleet unavailability and social unrest following the February 2025 post‑election protests.
