Portugal wins multiple honors at World Travel Awards Europe 2026

Portugal achieved significant recognition at the 33rd World Travel Awards Europe, held in Montenegro, winning multiple prestigious titles. The country was named Europe’s Leading Destination, while Turismo de Portugal was honored as Europe’s Leading Tourist Board.

Lisbon secured two major awards: Europe’s Leading City Destination and Europe’s Leading Cruise Destination. The city’s success is attributed to its cultural heritage, identity, and efforts to diversify tourism experiences across its metropolitan area. Additionally, Porto was recognized as Europe’s Leading Cultural City Destination.

Other regional highlights include the Algarve being named Europe’s Leading Beach Destination, the Azores as Europe’s Leading Regional Adventure Tourism Destination, and Madeira as Europe’s Leading Island Destination. The Dark Sky Alqueva project also received accolades as Europe’s Leading Tourist Attraction and Europe’s Leading Responsible Tourism Award.
