Portugal travel destinations beyond Lisbon and Porto

Portugal offers diverse travel destinations beyond the major hubs of Lisbon and Porto, ranging from medieval fortified villages to historic university cities and religious sanctuaries.

Marvão, located in the Alentejo region atop the Serra de São Mamede, is a well-preserved medieval village. Key attractions include its 13th-century walls, the Marvão Castle, and various religious sites such as the Church of Santa Maria and the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. The area also features the Roman ruins of Cidade de Ammaia.

Other notable destinations include Aveiro, known for its canals and colorful moliceiro boats; Coimbra, home to one of Europe’s oldest universities; and Fátima, a major global pilgrimage site centered around its Sanctuary. These locations provide a mix of historical architecture, traditional gastronomy, and natural landscapes.
