Portugal updates government portal with real-time alerts and digital services
The Portuguese government has updated its official portal to enhance real-time communication with citizens. Key features include the ability to follow live interventions from the Prime Minister and reports from the Council of Ministers. The portal now centralizes public service alerts, such as weather warnings, road advisories, and information regarding public consultations and deadlines.
To increase accessibility, the government has launched an official WhatsApp channel, allowing users to receive selected updates on government activity directly on their mobile devices. Citizens can also subscribe to official communications via email.
Additionally, digital tools have been streamlined for driver services. The ‘My Driver’s License’ platform allows citizens to check the validity of their licenses using Digital Mobile Key credentials or a Tax Identification Number (NIF). The system provides specific information on renewal requirements, including whether a medical certificate or psychological evaluation is necessary based on age and vehicle category. The Institute of Mobility and Transport (IMT) recommends starting the renewal process at least six months in advance to avoid traffic fines associated with expired documentation.
