Portugal workforce shows high stability with millions in long-term roles
A report by Randstad Research regarding the second quarter of 2026 indicates significant employment stability in Portugal. Approximately 1.39 million professionals, representing 25.7% of the total employed population, have remained in the same job for more than 20 years.
Despite global discussions regarding career mobility and frequent job changes, the Portuguese labor market shows high resilience. The active population has surpassed 5.7 million people for the first time, with the number of employees approaching 5.4 million. While the proportion of workers with over 20 years of seniority had been decreasing since the 2020 pandemic, recent data suggests this trend has stabilized.
