Portugalete identified as the birthplace of presenter Iñaki López

National Geographic has highlighted the origins of Spanish television presenter Iñaki López, noting that he spent his childhood in Portugalete, a town in Bizkaia with a significant naval history.

Located on the left bank of the Nervión River, Portugalete is recognized for its commercial importance dating back to the 14th century. The town features several historical landmarks, including the Old Quarter, which was declared a monumental ensemble in 1996, and the Basilica of Santa María.

A major architectural icon of the area is the Vizcaya Bridge (Puente Colgante), designed by Alberto de Palacio. Inaugurated in the late 19th century, it was the world's first transporter bridge and was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2006.
