The Algarve region in southern Portugal is bustling with cultural and tourism highlights this summer. The Portimão Sardine Festival (4‑9 August) draws more than 100,000 visitors for grilled fish, crafts and concerts, while the Olhão Seafood Festival (10‑15 August) showcases local shellfish and live music. Other events include the medieval market in Silves (7‑15 August) and the Mar Me Quer Festival in Portimão (12‑14 August) featuring international artists.

A new FamilyHolidayReport 2026 placed the Algarve at the top of a price‑quality ranking for family beach holidays among 22 European destinations, scoring 139.65 £. It moved ahead of SunnyBeach in Bulgaria and Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. Algarve Tourism President André Gomes said the result “confirms the competitiveness of the Algarve and its ability to offer high‑quality experiences at balanced value.”

Vogue’s recent guide lists seven standout Airbnb properties in the Algarve, from the traditional farm‑house The Old Donkey (from €216 per night) to the beachfront Beach House (€429) and the luxury group‑stay Casa Oliva do Sul (€1,184). The selection emphasises authentic architecture, private pools and easy access to local markets, offering visitors a range of options to enjoy the region beyond the main beach resorts.
