Portugal's APTAD Calls for Presidential Veto of TVDE Law Over Taxi Competition

The Associação Portuguesa de Transportadores em Automóveis Descaracterizados (APTAD) met with the President of the Republic to request a veto of the TVDE legal framework that was approved on 17 July. APTAD argues the law creates a “grave distorção da concorrência” because it permits vehicles licensed for taxi service to also operate on electronic ride‑hailing platforms, giving them tax and fiscal advantages that ride‑share operators do not enjoy. The association asked the President either to exercise a political veto and return the text to Parliament for revision or to refer the matter to the Constitutional Court for preventive review. APTAD president Ivo Miguel Fernandes stressed that the request is not against taxis or drivers, but against a rule that allows the same service to be provided under different economic conditions.
