Portugal's Bandidos do Cante miss Eurovision final

Portugal's entry in the 70th Eurovision Song Contest, the band Bandidos do Cante with the song "Rosa," performed in the first semifinal on 12 May 2026 at Vienna's Wiener Stadthalle, failed to secure enough points to advance to the final. The act placed among the 15 competitors but did not rank in the top ten, joining Georgia, Montenegro, Estonia and San Marino in missing the cut. This marks Portugal's first failure to reach the final since 2019 and the sixth time the country has missed out since the contest introduced two semifinals in 2008.

The ten qualifiers from the semifinal were Moldova, Sweden, Croatia, Greece, Finland, Israel, Belgium, Lithuania, Poland and Serbia. The event was also noted for protests against Israel's participation, with spectators shouting “Stop the genocide” during the Israeli performance. The contest was hosted in Austria, with the "Big Five" (Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom) and the host nation automatically qualifying for the final.

Portugal's domestic reaction highlighted the recurring challenge of qualifying, despite the band's recent domestic success in the national Festival da Canção. The failure adds to a pattern of five prior semifinal misses (2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2019).
