Portugal's Bienal de Cerveira and Brazil's São Paulo Audiovisual Forum highlight independent cinema

The XXIV Bienal Internacional de Arte de Cerveira (BIAC) in Portugal will host the BIOGRAF film showcase from 7 to 9 August, featuring a tribute to experimental filmmaker Silvestre Pestana, screenings of hybrid documentary and video works, and an international competition with entries from artists such as Edileuza Penha de Souza and Vincent Arthur Goudreau. The event is part of a broader summer program that includes free workshops, artistic residencies, and public performances.

In São Paulo, Brazil, the Encontro de Ideias Audiovisuais, a market segment of the Mostra Internacional de Cinema, will take place from 20 to 23 October 2026 at the historic Solar Fábio Prado. Organized by Fundação Padre Anchieta, the four‑day forum will offer project development sessions, professional training, and networking opportunities across three pillars: Da Palavra à Imagem, Mercado, and the Forum celebrating the 50th anniversary of the festival. International collaborations, such as the JIIFF Lab with Uruguay’s José Ignacio International Film Festival, are also featured.
