Portugal's Bloco de Esquerda challenges government on AIMA lawsuits and teacher exam fees

The left‑wing Bloco de Esquerda (BE) submitted a parliamentary request demanding explanations from the Portuguese government about the mounting legal actions against the Agência para a Integração, Migrações e Asilo (AIMA). The party highlighted that AIMA faces 124,316 pending cases in administrative courts, far outweighing the 6,611 cases in other sections, and warned that the volume is undermining the efficiency of the administrative justice system.

BE also questioned the Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation on the payment scheme for teachers grading the national secondary exams. The ministry announced that teachers will receive €1 per classified answer and €12 per re‑evaluated paper, with higher rates for physical‑support exams. BE asked how the ministry arrived at these figures, how many teachers are handling more than 20,000 re‑appraisal requests, and what safeguards ensure thorough review. The party noted that families have already deposited over €500,000 for re‑appraisals and sought clarification on refunds and fee structures.
