Portugal's Bordeaux Consulate Restores Services After Southwest France Forest Fires
Forest fires swept the Southwest of France in July, prompting evacuations across the Landes region and causing extensive damage to homes and businesses. The Consulate‑General of Portugal in Bordeaux announced that its services have returned to normal, praising the solidarity of Portuguese citizens and companies that helped fight the blazes and aid displaced residents. It also advised affected individuals to document their losses for insurance claims.
One of those affected is Portuguese emigrant Sónia Fernandes, who returned to the industrial area of Biscarrosse four days after the fire and found her business completely destroyed. Fernandes, who built the company over 11 years, described the devastation in a video, saying “the building is totally burnt” and lamenting the loss of years of work, investment and personal effort.
