Portugal's CHEGA Party Urges EU to Designate PCC as Terrorist Group

Members of the CHEGA parliamentary group in Portugal have presented a resolution urging the government to seek the European Union’s inclusion of the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) on the EU’s list of designated terrorist organisations. The proposal, championed by deputy Francisco Gomes, argues that the Brazilian‑origin criminal syndicate has expanded its activities across Europe and poses a threat to national security.

He added that the classification would enable stronger international cooperation, asset freezing and disruption of the group’s financing. The resolution cites the United States’ recent terrorist designation of the PCC as a precedent for EU action.
