In July 2026 Portuguese broadcaster TVI recorded its worst audience in 28 years, with an average share of 12.4% (about 271,400 viewers) according to GfK data. The decline left TVI close to slipping to third place behind SIC, which posted a 14.3% share.
Meanwhile, CNN Portugal maintained its position as the leading news channel for the 56th consecutive month, attracting 1.8 million daily contacts and a 2.5% share, ahead of SIC Notícias (2.4%) and Now (1.9%). The channel benefited from a strong news agenda covering politics, the Ukraine war, and the World Cup.
On 12 August, RTP1’s live broadcast of the Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira achieved a 12.8% rating and a 30.3% share, reaching roughly 1.27 million viewers and peaking at a 15.0% rating during the match between FC Porto and Torreense. Competing channels lagged far behind, with SIC’s best program at 5.8% rating and TVI’s top news at 3.8%.
