Portugal's Douro Valley Wine Harvest Experiences Draw Tourists

Each September‑October Portugal's grape harvest, known as the vindima, turns vineyards into visitor destinations. Tourists can join manual grape picking, traditional foot‑treading in 19th‑century granite lagares, and enjoy regional lunches paired with local wines and Port. Notable programmes include Quinta da Pacheca and Quinta do Seixo in the Douro Valley, which offer full‑day experiences with guided tours, tastings, and meals. In São João da Pesqueira, the Quinta da Gricha (promoted by Churchill’s) runs four‑day harvest events on 5, 9, 12 and 16 September, featuring manual picking, foot‑treading, a Duriense lunch and guided tastings of Vintage and Tawny Port wines.
