Portugal's Generation Z Shows Record Job‑Security Anxiety Linked to AI

A recent Human Resources survey of Portuguese workers shows that Generation Z, while the most confident about finding a new job, is the least confident about keeping their current position. The confidence indicator for staying in their present role fell to 53% for 2025, a drop of 10 percentage points.

Artificial Intelligence is identified as a primary driver of this insecurity. Although Gen Z remains the most comfortable with technology, confidence in using the latest tools, including AI, declined from 80% to 72%. More than half of the respondents (52%) fear that AI could cause them to lose their jobs within the next two years, making this generation the most apprehensive about AI's impact on career prospects.

The uncertainty extends beyond employment, influencing expectations about home ownership and family formation. As a result, 77% of Portuguese Gen Z workers supplement their income with part‑time jobs or freelance work – the highest rate among all age groups.
