Portugal's GS1 and Sogrape unveil new sustainability roadmaps

GS1 Portugal presented its 2025‑2027 Sustainability Master Plan, outlining four strategic pillars: enhanced value for members, greater transparency and capacity building, accelerated digital transition and traceability, and consolidated innovation support. The plan integrates a dedicated sustainability director into GS1’s management structure and targets over 9,000 member companies, positioning sustainability as a critical competitiveness factor.

Sogrape released its 2025 Sustainability Report, showing a 13.2% reduction in greenhouse‑gas emissions in Portugal and a 40% cut in water use per 750 ml bottle. Renewable electricity supplied 66.6% of the firm’s Portuguese consumption, while waste valorisation reached 97.6%. The company also highlighted 38 R&D projects with more than 200 partners, investments in precision viticulture, AI pilots, and circular‑economy initiatives across its operations in Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Chile and the United Kingdom.
