Portugal's Infraestruturas de Portugal receives €470 million EU recovery funding
Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) has confirmed that it has received roughly €470 million from the European Union's Recovery and Resilience Plan, amounting to 87% of the funding earmarked for the company. The money supports a range of projects, including the recently opened 4.4‑km variant of the EN263 road in Aljustrel and ongoing work on the digitalisation of the national rail network.
At the same time, Portugal's Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, called for the state‑owned operator to be granted greater autonomy to speed up investment execution. IP President Paulo Carmona echoed the sentiment, saying the agency must become "simpler, decide better, execute better and respond better" while increasing transparency about project timelines and studies. Both officials highlighted the strategic role of IP in delivering the country's PRR objectives and reinforcing economic and territorial cohesion.
The announcements underscore the government's priority of accelerating infrastructure development as part of a "decade decisive" for Portugal's growth.
