Portugal's June 3 General Strike Draws Call Center Workers and Lawyers

Call centre employees in Castelo Branco voted to join the nationwide general strike scheduled for 3 June, aligning with the CGTP's call to protest the government's proposed labour‑code overhaul. Union leader Hernâni Marinho said the sector, already marked by precarious conditions, would face further rights losses if the reforms pass.

Around a hundred lawyers also signed an open letter backing the strike, arguing that the draft legislation seeks to revoke existing protections, such as limits on contract lengths, the outsourcing ban and the regulation of bank‑hours agreements. They warned that the success of the strike is crucial to prevent the changes from becoming law.
