Portugal's local councils roll out summer water recreation events

The Junta de Freguesia of Avenidas Novas in Lisbon opened a four‑day "Open Week" at its municipal pool, offering free hydro‑gymnastics sessions to mark the start of summer. The programme ran from 8 July 2026 and was part of the parish’s effort to promote active, community‑based health activities.

In the municipality of Tondela, officials inaugurated the "Onda T" water‑activity programme on 19 July in Ferreirós do Dão. The launch featured canoeing, stand‑up paddleboarding, inflatable water toys, beach games and therapeutic massages, with free events scheduled every Sunday through August at several riverside sites across the district. The initiative aims to showcase the area’s natural heritage, boost sustainable tourism and stimulate local economic development.
