Portugal's Mourão and Ourém Municipal Councils Expand Education Support

On 16 July, the municipality of Mourão formally installed a Municipal Education Council (CME). The body will monitor pre‑school and primary schools, oversee school transport, meals and socio‑educational assistance, and evaluate projects and infrastructure. The mayor highlighted ongoing works at the municipal creche and announced the upcoming refurbishment of preschool classrooms at the Dr. Libânio Esquível school group.

In Ourém, the CME met in early July to review the 2025/26 school year and plan for 2026/27. The mayor confirmed the recruitment of about 19 new operational assistants for municipal schools and disclosed more than €500,000 earmarked for rehabilitating school facilities across the town. The council also approved a new school‑transport plan for the next academic year.
